I had never heard his interpretation of the song until I saw him perform it before the Giants-Cardinals game on Sunday. I usually cringe when I hear people try to personalize it, but he takes it in a completely different direction and offers a twist to the melody that just gives me chills. Apparently he caused quite an uproar when he first sang it at the 1968 World Series, but I think it's extremely cool.

I've heard this before and I think it's a great version. Most times I feel the Star Spangled Banner is one of those songs that shouldn't be personalized...BUT...with this version, you can just feel the passion coming from his voice. I think that's what really makes this version a great version!
