despite the many personnel changes from all bands, their identity has remained almost intact to me: pop/hard rock and ballads, and nice melodic guitar solo. me i like them all and i would play any of their songs rather than whats found on the radio today. what about you? whose your fave?

I was a hardcore Styx fan when I was a teenager, I had everything on vinyl from their first Wooden Nickel album all the way up to Kilroy Was Here. I also had a couple of albums from Journey and REO Speedwagon, but Styx was one of my main interests, mainly the lesser-known stuff that rarely hit the radio. I dubbed a cassette copy of Equinox that lived in my Walkman during ski season.

Journey going away for me, purely on the inhuman strength of Perry's vocals.

I've had the pleasure of seeing all of them at their height of fame and since they are on the downhill sides of their careers and I am a huge admirer of all three. That being said, I think REO would be my choice, with Journey being a close second. Perry's vocals are amazing, REO's groove really gets me going. Saw a Styx concert on TV recently and they blew me away too. Since they were all really big during my teenage years I gotta give two thumbs up to all three.

Last time I saw any of them was about 6 years ago, together. Great show!

Styx, then Journey. Not a huge fan of REO. but I did like their first couple of albums.

i also would have added foreigner to the choices, but mick jones was not as solo-intensive as schon, shaw& young and richrath. but foreigner did also some rocking songs-my favorite was the "4" album

I love all of them so the race is tight. Journey then, Styx then REO.

Styx, then REO, with Journey dead last (behind Foreigner, Kansas, Boston, Grand Funk . . . all of them).

I liked them all. I probably liked Journey the most simply for nostalgic reasons, but it's not really a runaway race for me.

I saw REO live a few years ago and they were phenomenal.

Journey was always a real musician-centric band, even at their most popular/commercial. Much talent there... Neal's a badass.

I don't change the station when REO Speedwagon comes on .... ever. They are my classic rock guilty pleasure.

I'd say these are three of the best bands that will never be in the rock and roll hall of fame.

The only cool Journey song: Feeling That Way
The only cool Styx song: Lady
The only cool Reo Speedwagon song: Roll With The Changes.

Really just one hit wonders who at the time of obvious FM radio payola converted that into "careers."

This thread reminds me of the scene in American Psycho where Patrick extols the genius that Huey Lewis and the News. ;)

I would say STYX is my fav of the three. They peaked with Grand Illusion and lost me about the time Kilroy came out.

Second would be Journey circa Escape (1982).

Never was into REO as much, but they are a solid band.
