OK, I had a thread earlier about a possible JTM-45 clone that I have the opportunity of picking up for $600. Well, it looks like I'm gonna be able to sell my old amp soon so I can pick this one up.

Now...I've only used 1X12 combo amps my entire life. So the head/cab thing is new to me.

I need to find a good combo for this JTM-45. I like classic rock.

Does Avatar make something that would be good for this? I'm open to any suggestions.

    Thanks guys...

    Hi,

    I'd say, get a 2 x 12 cab with Celestion G12H30 :)

    Best wishes,

    silverface.

ok just thought about this...the amps going to be mic'd 95% of the time it's played so anything over a 1X12 would be overkill.

    So what's THE speaker for a JTM45?

    Hi,

of course a 1 x 12 might do the job. Just try! But for a 1x12 Greenback (I'd call the GB "THE" speaker for JTM45) cab the JTM45 might be too strong - the speaker might get blown. But there are several options i.e. Weber 1230 rated 50Watts (Weber does these things) and you'll be safe.

All the Avatar cabs seem to be great work. So go ahead and get a 1x12 cab. If you've been playing combos all the time you should be familiar with the sound - I for myself would choose a 2x12 cab :)

    Best wishes,

    silverface.

The Eminence GB12 is a great speaker for a 1x12 setup with a JTM45. It's rated at 50w. I hammered mine with my Ceriatone JTM45 with KT66 tubes and it handled it just fine and sounded great doing so.

I loved the high power H Magnet Scumback when I had a JTM Clone. Sitting on top of a small Mesa 1x12 cab, it looked funny, but sounded great.

I'm using an Scumback with my Germino Classic 45 (JTM clone) and it sounds great. Send Jim and email and he'll set you up just fine.

I personally can't stand them on their own unless in a vox or paired with an H magnet in a 2x12.

My experience with Celestion speakers has been you want the speaker to equal twice the amp's stated wattage. Remember - a 50 watt amp is actually more than 50 watts when it starts to break up.

2x12 (Avatar G212H is a great sounding cab and not much $$$) with

    Scumback H75 30w
    Scumback M75 25w

Incredible mix and perfect for a JTM45, IMHO.

A single blue would be blown in like two seconds.

I like the Eminence GB128, esp in a 1x12", due to its wattage handling, and it sounds pretty close to a Green Back.

Also look into the other Eminence line the Red Coats, they have a bunch of popular speakers based on Celestion speakers, but with higher wattage handling.

The JTM is rated at about 35 watts. Most folks suggest at minimum a safety factor of say 1,2 to 1.5 and sometimes up to 2X. Many amps, especially Marshalls put out much more than their rated wattage when fully cranked, especially with humbuckers and a boost pedal.

Scumback makes 65 watt versions so that should cover you.

so, just to be clear, if I was to get a 1X12 cab, a 65 watt speaker would be enough for the JTM45?
