anyone else going?
enjoy man! Wish I would have known before I made plans. I would have made the trip. I have his latest album, and have to say that it is fantastic.
no.. but saw him with Nels last summer and even if it wasnt my cuppa he is just so completely absorbed he sucks you in with him...
That said I DO really enjoy 75% of Arclight. Worth every penny.
Gotta a couple vids. I usually don't record during shows, but everyone was and they didn't care, so...
it's because of the gear page that i know of julian lage
that i know he's got that whiteguard danocaster i love
hope he comes around the tri-state soon
I'll be seeing him on Saturday night, can't wait!
He used a Fender last night.
Chattanoogan here, where's he playing?
It was last night, I think.
Julian's one of those guys I'd love to see play.
I saw Julian and his trio in Madison, WI last night with my wife and a friend in a small punk bar. They were phenomenal and their dynamic control was out of this world. They played a couple of standards and a number of tracks from Arclight and World's Fair. Julian played a tele straight into an old tweed Fender champ and he controlled his tone with the volume knob, the tone knob and his attack. It was masterful.
I was there also, right down front. Was so inspirational. Like you said, his '53 Tele straight into a 50's champ. Not even a tuner in line with it. I've never seen anyone play so in tune with their band, and gear. Was pretty awesome how many tones he got out of that "simple" setup, kind of makes me rethink my gear. His drummer was amazing as well, sounds I've never heard (or knew) a drum kit make, especially on "Stop Go Start."
If you get a chance to see him definitely go.
Was it not his Danocaster?
No it was his '53 refin Telecaster. I sent him an email after the show asking if the guts are all original. He was swamped after the show, so I didn't want to bother him with gear questions. Was curious about the speaker he is using in his Champ also. It was so good! Not muddy, no farting out. I'll let you know what he says whenever he replies.
It actually looks like his girlfriend is using his Danocaster on tour right now from what I've seen.
Awesome mate, would definitely be interested to hear what he says.
I didn't know his girlfriend plays. Is she touring with him?
Is that an old tweed champ? (like a vicky518?) 5watter?
I like his tone but miss the gold fail pickup in his danocaster.
No not touring with him. Her name is Margaret Glaspy. She's interesting music wise, for me it took a few listens to get into what she's doing, interesting voice.
'50's 5F1 Champ
Have to correct myself, his Tele is a 1954 NOT a 1953.
Cool, I'll have to look her up.
They got a few videos up on Julian's YT page:
Certainly a quirky voice.
