My band uses quite a few OohLaLa products as well as the Penny Pedals Fingerprint. We just received this message from Laura Bennett

    ooh la la manufakefacturing

    do you guys order from
    ooh la la designs?
    that is a fake company.
    the girl running it
was the girl who fired me from zvex
because she was jealous and hated me.
i just wanted to warn you...
they may follow through but their products
are all copied from zvex, you might as well
just order zvex. she stole all of his ideas and
some employees after she fired me with no notice.
amada fired me after i started having epileptic
    seizures at work.
they had no way of ventialting the paint fumes for
me and she used to mess with my paychecks.
i just hope they stopped and are good people now.
i dont want her to know where i live even.
    i just care.
    cheers.
    LB

I have no idea what to make of this. How can OohLaLa be copying Zvex, all the OohLaLa products are Effector 13 and Blackbox products. I've dealt with Amanda before and she's very nice. Do you think this email is even real or is it possible someone hacked Laura's account.

I'm not even sure if I should have posted it here but I have no idea what to make of it.

I haven't heard anything about her being fired from zvex. As far as I knew shes simply an artist and paints pedals freelance for a few different builders though her largest body of work has certainly been with zvex.

It seems, at best, hastily put together. I'd take that to suggest that it's fake but you never know.

Seems to follow along with the stories of an unfortunate business break-up. Not to stir the rumor pot, but I've heard not-so-nice stories regarding many involved....all indirectly of course. I'd just buy what you want and not worry about the drama behind the scenes. It's amazing the antics that go down in the pedal world.

Well I just want to say the customer service and quality of the products I have recieved from both Amanda and Laura's companies has been excellent. My band currently uses the OohLaLa Truly Beautiful Disaster, Torn's Peaker and Soda-Meiser as well as the Laura designed Penny Pedals Fingerprint. All of them are remarkable pedals and the customer service at both companies was exceptional.

This email will not in any way influence my decision in dealing with either company. They have both been great and I will continue to deal with both in the future

I would ask myself a couple of questions.

Are the products real, and as advertised?

Does the company function as a real company (you pay for your order and they deliver the product)?

Are there laws governing intellectual property rights?

Are there laws governing labor relations?

If the answer to these questions is yes, I'd say don't worry about it. But it does still leave the question as to how Laura Bennett (if that is the sender's actual name) got your email address.

Are OohLala pedals made in the USA? Or are they made overseas?

My sister is a divorce lawyer. I suspect this is the kind of thing she has to deal with every day.
