Flipped that little bias switch and loaded it with 6L6's.

:jo Why didn't I do this sooner?

Much nicer cleans, smoother gain, tighter lows, overall just more articulate and refined. Really noticeable on the Blue channel especially. I know the RA-100 is supposed to a "British" voiced amp, but I don't think I'll be going back to the stock EL-34's in this amp. I'm an EL-34 fan, but this amp just sounds SO much better with 6L6's. I really liked the RA before, now....I love it.

Funny, I prefer EL34s in my Mark V, which is "supposed" to use 6L6s. That's the beauty of Mesas, you really can find your own sound in them with a little experimentation.

I'm glad to read this as I just ordered 2 pair of matched EL34 duets from Mesa. :aok
The 6L6s are just too brittle in every channel in every way no matter how I EQ it (IMO).

Reviving this thread because I finally got around to trying a set of 6L6s in my RA-100. I'm really loving the tones I'm getting from the RA with 6L6s. It seems like the frequencies are more balanced or something. It also seems to have more chime than with the EL34s but not in a harsh way. My Strat through the clean channel with the 6L6s sounds heavenly!

Interestingly like SteveO above I too prefer EL34s in my Mark V head?!?!?

Just curious: have you guys tried KT-77s in your RA?
