I just recently saw a post by Kathleen on her FB page about stepping away from music indefinitely. Not sure if it's a Canadian "April Fools" joke, but if it's true, that's pretty damn depressing. She's one of my favorite female artists of the past 15 years and is atop a very short list IMO.

For those who are unaware of such talents...

It really would be too bad, she's one of my favs! that being said "indefinitely" doesn't necassarily mean forever right?? Perhaps she just needs to take a bit of a break... I've been there before.

I saw her last summer, accompanied by both the great Colin Cripps (her ex husband) and another guy who she introduced as her new husband. And, of course, she did have a fling with the Bon Iver dude. He certainly did her no favors as the producer of her last album IMO. Maybe she has man/musician trouble.

I'm not speculating that it is based on frustration- but if it is, I wouldn't be one bit surprised. With her level of talent, that she isn't much more well known frustrates me.

I love her last album, listen to it all the time. She's been one of my very favorites over the last two years. Would hate to not hear more from her, hope she's doin alright.

Cheers

Love this performance. The first minute is a great lesson that a feel for the moment trumps technical precision. Guitar solo from 3:00 is magic.

Wasn't there some pretty weird behavior at Bonaroo, a year or so ago? From her website tour diaries, it appears that she likes beer, a lot.

That said, I really dig her, too. Her first and second record are really good.

She released another statement saying that she wasn't quitting and that people misinterpreted her earlier message.

She should quit dating/marrying musicians. But what do I know other then I like her music.

You could vaguely call me a musician, and i disagree with your statement :D

little more seriously, she's about my age, and got divorced around the same time i did, a year or two earlier maybe. Tho i obviously know nothing about Kathleen's life, i can tell you from where i stand that it takes some time to pick up the pieces.

As a fan, i wish her the best. Her songs were with me during the toughest time of my life.

cheers

KE was huge to me, but Colin, and the magical musical chemistry between the two of them, was a very large part of what I liked so much. I saw them up close in a very small room a couple of years ago, and it was a memorable performance.

Without Colin, it ain't at all the same thing.

I've been a fan and friend of Colin for 20+ years and discovered Kathleen before they met. I still like all of her albums with, and without Colin involved but I agree 100%, without Colin, it aint at all the same thing. No disrespect to Gord, her current guitar player.

Good catch; I did not mean any disrespect to Gord.

However, there was something so present with Colin and Kathleen that is missing now. I think a lot of it goes to Colin, whose playing was just so intimately supportive of what Kathleen was expressing at every moment, almost as if he and Kathleen were the same entity. I know this sounds a little freaky, but it was palpable and just totally blew me away.

I hadn't thought of his playing in support of her songs but hell yeah, you're right. I remember when I heard they were getting married I thought, 'I can't wait to hear her next album' and I wasn't disappointed. The real disappoint came later when I was with Colin hearing him let it all out about the break up.
Seeing my guitar mentor and friend all busted all like that is not how you picture your heroes.
