That's funny, kind of sounds like that rig was put together for him. He didn't know what half the stuff was or how it worked.

Interesting that he appears to be using a 5153 Red 100W model for his main rhythm tone when Mustaine loves, loves, loves Marshall sound and extensively used a JVM410H head for several years now. I believe they went all Fractal with the latest record, but you would figure they'd go with the JVM410H model in the box.

Whoever the lead guitarist in Megadeth at any given time usually has to give up a lot of autonomy over their rig. Chris Broderick wasn't allowed to use his preferred gear or even a 7-string for pretty much his entire run.

Ya, that is what I was thinking. Dave Mustaine said, here's your rig.

That dude has chops, but more importantly, tasty phrasing and a great ear. This is the best megadeth album in years. Chris Adler certainly doesn't hurt either!

    "Furman power amp"

the Axe-Fx "sends power to the speakers"

    "The Matrix is a small unit, it's 4lbs? 7lbs?"
    "8"
    "It's 8 lbs? So it's great."

    Geez...really?

:D He's got a tech to handle these kinds of questions!

Dude is an absolute beast. I didn't know what I was going to think but when I heard the first clips and then eventually got the album; I was sold. Excellent addition to the Megadeth family.

Just like any other job.. (Being a guitarist in Megadeth IS a job, it's a hired position... not a partnership or even a creative position always. Though Dave has had excellent collaboration with Marty/Chris and now Kiko. It wasn't always like that.. (Pitrelli) But they are given some constraints... Mustaine doesn't play 7 string, not an unreasonable expectation to have Chris stick to 6... Prevents the need for a 7 string player down the road.

Megadeth has been on modelers for a while.. I know that they were using GSP1101s after Marty with Marshall power amps and 4x12s (Still a potent combination) for stage volume and FOH with DI out of the GSP for a couple of tours after Friedman... and most recently the AXE FX stuff for a few years.

Check out the recent Mustaine interview on the Eddie Trunk Podcast... good interview. Dave was very pleasant and spoke very highly of Kiko... even had him living with his family while Kiko was coming on board.
