Hey folks. I’ve accrued some decent amps over the last few years, but I’m still jonesing for a real good convincing medium to high (not shred) gain Marshall tone. I’m getting pretty close running a Kingsley Jouster into either a Vox AC15C1 or a Mesa MkV:35, but I’d like to land in the middle of plexi/jcm 800 territory.

    Current plan is Constable>Power Station V2>Marshall 1965a.

Will this fit the bill? Any thoughts on a cheaper and/or more readily available option without sacrificing tone or overall quality?

Well, lack of replies caused me to buy a DSL20CR today, so I guess I answered my own question.

The new amp rips into a 1965a.

Simon confirmed that he does build a MV 2203/2204 preamp in the Constable enclosure which is what I asked for.

See y’all in after a few holidays and a birthday.

Get the Constable. It is my favorite pedal of all time.

I run Page >Constable >Power station v2 > Cab .. and it sounds amazing. I do feel that you may need to pushing the Constable with something to get you into a medium gain territory. When I A/B this with my 2203 and 2204 .. Constable has almost identical sound when using the Page to emulate the extra gain stage that JCM's have.

Constable JCM into Power Station into Marshall 1960 satisfies me. Sorry, you won’t find a better pedal preamp.

Constable V2 as a preamp & into the Fryette Power Station (power amp function only) = Marshall plexi model 1959 or 1987. It really does..... without the ear splitting volume or attenuator.

I assume you are running the constable into the line in on the power station. Can you still use the effects loop on the power station in your setup?

Thanks for bumping and sharing your thoughts fellas. Have a round of likes on me.

Since I posted, I replaced the Dsl20cr with a Dsl40cr. I’ve gotten on the list for a Constable, but now I want a voxish preamp pedal as well. And my dumb a$$ only got on the list for a single pedal. :(

Also, Simon said that what works best is to plug the output of the Constable into the effects loop return jack on the Fryette Power Station. The impedance match is not the best into the line in so that does not work very well, but the loop return works fine.

Sorry, but there is really no complete cure for lacking a Marshall...well, except one obvious thing...

Yep, after lots of pedals i always find that the amp sounds best. I have never been in front of a kingsley pedal in my life but i have really hard time imagine they sound as good as an actual amp.

To clarify, a Kingsley Constable IS an amp preamp with tubes and all. It is NOT a pedal to emulate the overall sound but is an actual Marshall based preamp. So putting it into the correct power section will give you the Marshall sound, just like the preamp in an actual Marshall amp will.

Yeah there's "Marshall-in-a-box" and then there's actual Marshall Plexi in a box.

A constable through a tube power section and cab is sick. Feels amazing and on point. Right now Im considering constable into fryette ps-2 and cab and call it a day.

Not my experience. I plug the Constable 2 in the line input of the power station 2. Then I use the PS2's fx loop for just that, effects. It's like owning a plexi 1987X.
