Who said that a Tele is just for country music. Never seen Larry play one before. That was great, thanks.

I didn't upload this video. I just posted the YouTube link. There are at least 5 songs from Carlton's performance at Montreux 1997 that people have put on YouTube.

I love Larry. I wish he'd have opened up the tone control a bit. He's trying a bit too hard to get his usual tone from the Tele. But man this guy plays the s*** out of everything he does...

I hate to say it but the Tele dont cut it for Room 335, IMO

Why didn't he just go ahead and play the head to "Impressions" if he wanted to burn like that? Wow! No wine and cheese there. Great playing.

The Tele sounded great. Amazing how he got that slightly boxy Boogie sound on Room 335. Just goes to show it's in the hands and ears of the player, not the gear.

Hey Blues Fuse thanks for the links. I appreciate them and enjoyed them. Tone be damned...it's about the music.

You think that's fast - you should check out some of Miles's 60's quintet's Plugged Nickel versions - good gawd!

Gee guys, I found "So What" totally lame. Larry sounded terrible on that to me. and his sound was dreadful too. Also the band sounded like a lounge band trying to play jazz....335 sounded better...

Larry Carlton can completely nullify the effect of any pickup. I bet if he played a Rickenbacker, he'd find a way to make it sound like a 335.

Does anybody know what Larry is turning on when he starts his solo at 1:02 on the video "Comin' Home, Baby"? He stays on the neck pickup the whole time, but whatever he steps on takes his smooth mellow tone to a nice bitting lead tone, wow very nice! I like it a lot!
