Are there any advantages of getting a used 1989 American Std versus one made in the 90s or post 2000? Just wondering if the quality has changed at all.

Not the exact era but... I have a 93 and it seems to be a little better quality than my 2000+ models. Sounds brighter too...

yeah, on the 89 i played there was definitely a different feel to the neck. felt a little more quality or something, cant really pinpoint what it was. although, i am picky and didnt like the look of it as much as the newer ones.

I had an '89 for 13 years and thought it was of good quality.

the guy who had this one put some kind of pad under the saddle on the low e string, im guessing to keep it from buzzing maybe... and the action was a little high. all things that can be fixed i think though.

any thoughts on the value? its an 89 candy apple red/maple board american standard strat. bunch of little dings in the paint, input jack seems a little weird, you have to force the cord in more than on most guitars, but once it goes in it's fine.

    ballpark fair price?

late 80's fenders are great. they were still fairly small back then. i still have a '87 strat that plays and sounds great. but i admit i went through a bunch to pick that one back then.
