    What I have so far:

    1. $20 non-refundable fee (covers the $8.10 and handling)
    2. 10-day turn-around
    3. Fax-in sheet to apply (includes credit-card # - with authorization (signature) to charge full amount if not returned in 10 days)
    4. Phone verification by me
    5. Cables will include: (8' length permanently marked as "demonstration cable")
    a. van den Hul
    b. Cardas Audio
    c. EA Lyric HG
    d. EA Melody
    e. Lava ELC
    f. Sommer Spirit
    g. Klotz La Grange
    6. Customer can pick from 2-4 cables
    7. Customer pays for return postage

    What do you'all think?

That's an awesome idea! I'd like to see it taken even further and have some comparison clips made, but it's so hard to be scientific about it. I thought about reamping so the part played is always consistent but then you have other cables, AD/DA conversion etc. coming into play. Cool!

If you decided to buy cable after trying some out, would the $20 apply to the purchase or is that money just the fee for trying them out?

I'm interested in some new cables, but I can't try them out. This would be the perfect way to do that. I believe it would also help your business by bringing in those people like me that would spend $200 on a cable, but are not willing to take the risk and buy 4 different $200 cables to find the right one.

You need some collateral in case someone decided $20 was a good deal for 4 8' boutique cables. How about $50 deposit, $30 refundable.

Two things to deal with this:

    1. Signed fax (with credit card number) authorizing payment in full if not returned in 10 days.
    2. Siginificantly marked "demonstration cable" (each one)

    Depends on the day.
I'd probably do it just to compare the Van den hul to my lyrics...

sign me up. my guess is you'll have a perpetual waiting list.

another option - some kind of retun policy on the ultra high end stuff. maybe make it store credit only, or store credit less a small fee, and a maximum # of returns per transaction i.e. you can't buya cardas, return it for a vdh, return it for a ____

also, I personally would not mind buying a cable someone else has played as long as it was in like new condition.

Mark, if you can do it without getting screwed by some dillholes (most people are good souls, but let the minority ruin it for the rest of us....), totally go for it!

I think the idea of putting the $20 toward a purchase is great. I think it would attract more potential customers and would be good for business. I know that if I were interested in some new high end cables, I'd be more likely to spend the $20 knowing that it could be applied against the purchase price if I liked the product.

I don't think marking them as "demonstration cables" will deter the people that would actually try to rip you off.

You can cancel a credit card with a phone call. What would happen then?

    Excellent idea!

My only concern would be ...

    2. Fax-in sheet to apply (includes credit-card # - with authorization ...)

Is it safe to fax credit card info? I've never done that before.

i think it is a good idea.

one way to combat the cancel of the credit card is to charge em up front the full amount.

this way forces the customer to do the quick turnaround to get a refund.

the only bad thing would be the finance charges.:jo

great idea. . . you could possibly make the person pay via paypal where you have to have a credit card with a bank account as a secondary correct? I guess you could cancel a bank account and a credit card but that would be alot of trouble to go through . . .

I was thinking of this the other day. How about a cable Tour Box? You would only have to send out 1 set of cables and the reviews would be great advertising. Just a thought.
