I have owned a lot of great amps and it's rare that anything blows me away.

I love the LJ20 but all it does is does tweed deluxe, albeit it better than any amp around.

Because I like the TK Imperial, I've been running two of them

However, the other day, I scored an LJ40.

I have NEVER heard an amp with this amount of punch, power, detail and clarity.

It's utterly astonishing- like Brownfacey tones and the power is limitless.

If ever you get the chance, this $4500 monster just rules. My gast is flabbered.

You should hear the 80, mind blowing!

Jason- I'd love to but I'd probably need to be in the next town to listen to it cranked!

If you know these- I'm thinking of shoving a Cel Gold in place of the Tayden?

i'd love to try one of those, someday!, though i'd really like to compare it, side-by-side, with the LJ80.
i'd also like to compare it with my amps, too, which already provide me with punch, power, detail, clarity & the kind of feel i enjoy.

    clips, maybe?

David, I've not tried the 80.

I am, like you, an effects nut. This really does bridge the gap between the sag of the 20 and the beauty of a BF Twin. It's got more hair than my Tone Kings but never gets out of shape tonally.

Want to try the J40 sooooo bad. It and the Metroplex are the two amps I'm dying to play at the moment.

    Check your inbox!

(and respectfully, I have never seen anyone use effects and sounds like you do!)

If you've got the ACE 50 in there, what are you hoping to gain from swapping to the Celestion? I prefer Tayden Ceramics to their Celestion equivalents, but I haven't had / tried the Tayden AlNiCos. I was considering some for a tweed-y 2x12 combo I've just acquired, not a million miles away from your Lazy J.

I'd be interested in your results if you do swap it out. Jesse H obviously chooses the Tayden for a reason, but I'd like to know why in a bit more detail.

Just curious, how'd you come across a used J40? I've been keeping my eyes open, but can't ever find one. Sweet rack gear, too!

I haven't tried the Tayden speakers yet, but the the pair of Golds I have in the LJ80 are perfection. Tried a few other speakers, but didn't take long to come right back to the Golds.

I've been on the hunt for a LJ40 too, but never seen one come up used. I just grabbed a Magic Tweed Super to try, will be interesting to see how it compares to the LJ80.

Will definitely want to hear your comparison. Do you still have the 80?

I'm thinking of selling my two amps for a J40. I've always preferred simplicity but I've somehow let my rig balloon out of control and it's anything but simple.

How do you guys play this monsters at home? Or are you just playing them in a practice room with no neighbors?

I wish I would have tried the J40 instead of the J20. I didn't gel with the 20.

Haha, I am only massaging the thought so far, but the simplicity of a combo is very enticing. I was thinking I would sell my 50w TR TS1 w/2x12 Sig cab and ELI2 and my Carol Ann Revo45, which I love, but it would be redundant. I don't play nearly as much guitar as I used to and also would like to free up some space in the house and some cash in my pocket.
