Are there some Ritenour fans here who knows what gear he uses/used?
Here is a link to Rodenberg amplification. These guys rock. I have the GAS 828 pedal and it's simply amazing. Blows many of those boutique pedals out of the water. Here is the link to the Lee Ritenour model:
Lee uses an early 50's Gibson L-5C with a floating Johnny Smith pickup on recordings and when playing close to home in the L.A. area. He tends to use the limited edition Gibson Lee Ritenour L-5 signature model when touring. The signature model is smaller and has a thinner body with a floating pickup.
His other main electric guitar is the cherry red vintage ES-335 that he has used for many years.
Most of the pictures of Ritenour shown in recent years show him using Mesa Boogie amps. I think he used (uses?) the Mesa Maverick. He uses a rack for signal processing. On recordings like, "Wes Bound," he's using some light chorus, along with reverb and delay.
It looks like his pedal is somewhat a clean/volume boost , a TS808 , and an SD9 in one box.
Maverick ! :/
Well he IS good
Interesting thread!! Huge Ritenour fan here! The live gig he did with Carlton on the Larry Lee album was simply amazing!! I have a DVD of it from Tokyo...
I just found this interview about all his gear for the last record
and the basic signal paths
I saw him play a gig about 6 months ago in LA and he was playing a Deluxe Reverb and a Twin Reverb with his Sig L5 and the Vintage 335, with a rack system. What was in the rack I don't know. I'm certain about the amps and guitars.
Great gear pics-a closeup of the pedalboards would be terrific. I loved his early fusion work- ie. Captains Fingers, etc.
I envy a lot that enviroment, that carpet, that atmosphere ...
That is a gasing situation for me.
i have seen a picture of him in as mesa catalog using what looked like a roadking head into a 4x12 cab.
looks like a roadking head in the picture. Love his playing as well.
Big Ritenour fan here too.
Here is another pic of his pedalboard from about the same period as the pics above:
Lee uses D'Addario strings for the L5.
1st string is 012 (plain)
2nd string is 014 (plain)
3rd string is 018 (plain)
4th string is 032 (high finish ribbon wound chromes)
5th string is 042 (high finish ribbon wound chromes)
6th string is 052 (high finish ribbon wound chromes)
Do you know what's the string gauges on 335?
I know he was using Mesa amps for a while. Can't remember the model. A Recto of some sort if my memory is any good from the pics - and they was 5-10 years ago when I remember seeing it.
Huge fan of Lee. He's amazing. The "Larry and Lee" album is amazing. I also have a special place in my heart for "Harlequin", which was the first Lee album I bought.
