I don't know, but the definitive version of that song is by Donny Hathaway.

Looks like he wrote it on spec for Sinatra and Ray Charles: http://www.leonrussellrecords.com/news/042906.html

One of my favorite versions is Xtina and Herbie on possibilities. She's a bit flaky for my tastes but the girl does have quite an instrument.

Leon Russell has been around forever; I've seen photos of him (looks around 20) playing piano backing up Frank Sinatra.

Leon wrote (and recorded) "Masquerade" (later the mega hit by George Benson).

Amen, brother -- one of the most neglected records of the era. After James Brown's first three live at the Apollo sets it might be my favorite live album of the rock era. As a rock pianist coming up in the 1970s, I pretty much idolized the guy. One of the greats. Those first three Shelter albums and then the Leon Live which came next was an incredible run.

Not even close for me. Leon sings it like its the last song he'll ever sing or write... you can keep this pretty polished version.

Most of the world would have never known the song if not for Donny.

When knowing that Leon actually wrote the song... and sings it with such emotion doesnt close the deal as the best recording of this song baffles me??
