Just seen in my local entertainment paper that Leonard Cohen will be touring and is his first in America in 15 years. He is coming to Detroit. Do a Google if your interested to see if he is coming to your town if interested.

Wow, Leonard Cohen? While i recognize his inportance in the pantheon of singer/songwriters, as soon as I hear his voice, I immediately start debating: "razor blade, shotgun, or tailpipe?"

Saw him in Milan last October. Great show. He was quite energetic, which I wasn't expecting. Apparently he was staying in our hotel. I didn't get to meet him, but I did ride in the elevator with Roscoe Beck.

    Quick Leonard story:
My Masters thesis (back in the early-90s) dealt w/ identity in English Canadian popular music. Much of my research involved compiling questionnaires sent to Canadian musicians and music industry folks. I sent one to Cohen's office in California, not expecting a reply.
Well, I received a hand-written note: "I can't seem to concentrate on this right now. Perhaps give me a call."
He included his number and (after bucking up my courage) I did give him a shout. Unfortunately, he was on one of his Buddhist retreats by then. Kelley Lynch (Cohen's long-time manager/assistant now accused of siphoning $ from the artist) answered the phone.

This tour has been getting fantastic reviews. I saw a recent live video clip - mesmerizing performance. He's unique and inspiring. I've met him four times -
    he's always nice to me.

He seems to reside in the same part of my brain where Neil Young lives. Both have always done what they do without a moments thought to fads or fashions. And here they are, 40 years later, with their integrity 100% intact. Not to mention some darn fine words and music along the way.

For me, it's just the deep low-moan of a down and out blues-monk, but I think you're close too as he's definitely all those things.

"I was born like this, I had no choice -
I was born with the gift of a golden voice..."

Going to see him outside in June at Redrocks.

Live in London, the dvd/cd combo from the opening European leg of this tour was released on the 31st of March. Highly recommend if you can't make a show. Recommend either way, really.

We'll be at the Red Rocks show, too - the man is a God. Nick cave's biggest influence, too. Had to pawn a kidney to afford the tickets, but I expect it will be worth it!
