I’m staunchly against a pick guard on a flame top or any top. Plus, what’s it really protecting against even, upstrokes?

I used to be against them but I think they look a bit naked without, now. Both my Epiphone and Gibson have them. In fact, when I first got my Epi I immediately took the pg off, but didn't like it as much so back on it went.

It depends on the top and the colour. I generally prefer LPs with a pickguard however there are always exceptions.

Well, my favorite LP's are plain tops and gold tops. And both of those variants look best with a pickguard.

I'm pro 'guard on Lesters. It's one of the many things Gibby got right on the model. Doesn't detract on exotic tops either, IMHO.

I like how they look with and without, but I like to anchor my pinky below the bridge pickup ring, which the pickguard interferes with, so I usually pull it off.

With is like Black Tue, real nice and proper.

Without is a Bad ass leather jacket, throwing caution to the wind.
