My research to date has shown that the only differences between these two models, other than about $400, is that the VOS has aged looking hardware and the NON VOS model has extra lacquer and extra buffing which give it a more glossy look.

i.e. for $400 more you get the Non VOS which looks glossier but does not have the aged looking hardware.

I guess it's up to each of us as to what we would value here..but I am interested in hearing from y'all

    a) are there any other differences than what I have laid out?
    b) any tonal or playability considerations
    c) any other observations?

    Thanks...

I think you've got it. The only thing I'll add is that you can buff out a VOS easikly, to look like the other. That's what I did with my R8.

I like the way the VOS feels compared to the high gloss finish. It has that worn in feel.

When I told S. Lentz that gibson had started charging five bills to buff out their guitars to a gloss, he just about fell out of his chair laughing...

VOS doesn't bother me, but its kinda weird to not offer "gloss".

I love my "gloss", R9, '57 Goldtop, and R0 LP Special.

I buffed my VOS Goldtop with the Dunlop 65 Carnuba Wax and it looks pretty damn glossy to me now. I think they just leave out the final polish on the VOS.

I prefer the gloss version, or even aged.

    But not into the VOS.
