Any suggestions for a light/medium overdrive for a blackface Fender type amp (in my specific case, a Tone King Meteor II)?

I use a RAT as my main distortion and love it. But I'm constantly going through secondary overdrives to use as a light-to-medium type dirt, just something to use as a separate sound (don't really care to stack distortions).

I have an OCD for that purpose now, but it sounds better IMO with more gain that takes it past that point.

I play Gibsons mainly (SG, LP) and Strats occasionally.

So, what do you think? Timmy maybe? Something from Barber?

    Thanks!

I love Barber stuff but the only one that really does it for me on a blackface type amp is the Direct Drive because I gotta have some mid hump with a scooped amp. Honestly, they may not be cool anymore but it's hard to go wrong pairing a Fulldrive 2/3 with a blackface amp.

Fulldrive 2 isn't bad, but I'm not a big fan of the vintage mode. I prefer comp cut to slam the front end and getting the amp to break up on it's own.
Also, the Wampler Euphoria is pretty great in a Blackface.

I use the Blackstone MOSFET OD with my Fender amps and love it.
They're best into a clean amp and first in line. Use the volume knob on
the guitar to clean or dirty it up. Both side are great, but I spend most
of the time on the brown side.

Prince of Tone. Works great with buckers and singles and sounds great with blackface amps.

Can't recommend the Mentone red snapper any higher! Brian is now doing a custom shop 3 knob small knob version all point to point hand wired and man does it sound incredible! Definitely worth a look.

You might like the Rockett Archer. I've owned the Timmy and Butah, but found them to be a bit brught for my taste. If you want a bit more versatility, the Matthews Effects Klone can hit the Archer's tone pretty well, but has two additional toggle settings for more gain options. The Archer is slightly more compact, and there was just something about it that made me choose it over the Klone.

One other to consider is the Hot Cake. I had one as well but I think it probably shines best with Vox-flavored amps.

The Soul Food sounds great with my Pro Reverb. It makes the amp sound like it's on 8 when it's on 3 volume dial wise.

    I suggest a fuzz instead.

Blackface amps are 'hard' sounding already. So are many overdrives. Get something with a little cushion.

I don't mean a crazy ripping fuzz. A Sunface at lower fuzz levels sounds...real good and not wacky. And has a little softness.

Or an Astrotone - half fuzz half OD, all excellence.

A couple I've liked into my blackface style amps:

    - Jetter. Brad plays blackface amps and the pedals work beautifully on that platform. Pick your flavor.
    - Skreddy Hybrid Fuzz Driver - really versatile, spans from a cleanish boost to OD to germanium fuzz tones.
    - Lovepedal Amp 11 - OD side is very smooth and natural sounding, boost side sounds like more of a pushed Marshall kind of tone.
    - Barber - great stuff, new smaller pedals have even more range than some of the older ones.

Sweet Honey is my go to OD. Have others I like better for certain situations, but the SH will deliver for any low/mediumish gain needs.

I love this pedal. I grabbed a used one off ebay for $70 on a whim and it absolutely kills for low gain stuff. It makes my silverface sound like a tweed.
