I'm starting to hunt around for a good OD match for a Princeton Reverb / Tele combination.

I want a bluesy light 'hair around the edges of the notes' kind of OD.

No full blown distortion or OD.

I was looking at the Analog Man TS9 pedals but also the Mythical Overdrive has my eye.

Does anyone have some suggestions of advice based on the tone I am looking for?

I know it's not quite a Tele, but I really enjoy running my P90 equipped Fano through my JHS Morning Glory into my Princetons for just what you are describing. The Barber Gain Changer is also an excellent option.

Simble does that really well. I used that exact setup for a while.

I've liked the Telenordia/Tortenmann TA-100 for light OD with the Fairfield Barbershop a more readily available alternative. Both can be dialed in to barely get a touch of OD and have a fairly neutral sound that still makes it feel like the amp's voice. The tone controls can help with a bright tele. I haven't tried them into a Princeton, but have good results with a VibroChamp and Showman as well as Vox.

The Sag on the Barbershop also helps give the Showman the feeling of a little more give.

(Almost forgot, check out Ryan Adams for TA-100 into Princeton examples. Having used the pedal, I would believe almost all of his OD is coming from the pedal rather than the amps. One can dial back the OD more than his typical setting.)

I have been seeing the Gain Changer mentioned a lot in my search.

What about something like the Fat Boost 3? Does that add grit?

I've used the Fairfield barbershop, the rocket blue note, and the cmat butah.
    Same rig.
All of them will give you what you're looking for.

Timmy or Blue Note would be good for that.

I have the Mythical OD in front of my 64 PR currently. Have a FD II that does get used at times but really all the suggestions will be someones version of the perfect solution. Buy and try the TGP way.

I really did not like the gain changer. And the Timmy did nothing for me. For light gain--I would try a TC Spark. Yes, I play a tele and a PR.

I know it's not boutique enough for TGP, but the Sparkle Drive is a perfect match for that combo. And I mean perfect.
