Check this:

The guitar playing speaks for itself, but my boy is an insanely good writer, and has a real Kenny Wheeler vibe to his writing/production. I know the ECM crowd will eat this up.

Nasty band, too, and some nasty solos.

It's my FAVORITE jazz! It's what got me into jazz: Towner, Abercrombie, Metheny, Rypdal, Jarrett, DeJohnnette, etc

Reverb, ride cymbals, post bop, augmented major sevenths...love it.

ECM? Chasing Ralph Towner got me to Jan Garbarek, and I REALLY like Gabarek (partly for the Shorter and 'Trane I hear as influences, but he does have his big own Scandamoodian thing). There's def that sort of ECM vibe in this too---good call. Thanks!

my apologies in advance:
Jan's surname is actually spelled:
G-a-r-b-a-r-e-k.

Very cool, although I hope ECM doesn't mellow out Chris Potter too much,
as he's signed w them for the next Underground record.

it's been recorded already; i haven't got to hear it, yet.

NB that:
not everyone who records for ECM "mellows out" terminally.

Exactly, and I'm pretty sure the Dave Holland Quintet albums (featuring Chris Potter) were on ECM, and those were fireballs. The live album gives me a sunburn.
