Line 6 Expression Switch

Alright folks... somebody has to know the answer for this one.

The Line 6 expression pedal has a 10k pot in it. I want to make a little box that will switch between the settings, instead of using the big pedal. My guess is that I'd have to place a 10k resistor across two of the lugs of the switch. Any ideas? Designs?

should be as simple as that. heck, put two in one box. just wire up a potentiometer with a footswitch, but instead of a circuit board in/out, just substitute 2 lugs of the 10K pot. throw an LED on the 3rd set of throws and you know what patch you're on.

connect two in series, and you have 4 options: off, on 1, on 2, on 1+2.

I was thinking of butchering an old A/B/Y box to do this. I've got the MM4 and DL4 on the board, and was going to use one footswitch for each. It's already got LED holes and such, so it wouldn't be a big deal.

How would i wire the switch? Would the switches inside a Whirlwind ABY work? Just a little confused as to which lugs are the ins and outs, which lugs i'd put the resistor across and which ones for the LED.

ahhhh wait a second. i think this came up somewhere else, that it's not so easy. here's the problem:

the mere act of inserting a cable into an expression output overrides the knob that jack controls. so, let's say for the DL-4, if you have the expression out controlling delay feedback, the knob that controls delay feedback on the actual pedal becomes useless.

you can wire a switch to select between two 10K pots, hooked up to the expression out, so you have a bank A and bank B.

hmmm...

well, i know the guts of my whirlwind won't work. so that's a start.

you're saying that I can't just wire a switchable load? I'm just thinking of taking it directly from point a to point b with no inbetween. with the expression pedal hooked up i still have control of all the parameters...

I have a good friend that did what he calls "the nipple mod". Essentially he added a switch (momentary on my DL4) up at the top of the pedal right above where the expression out goes. I'm assuming this ties directly into the quarter inch expression out jack. This momentarily applies the other expression setting so I can do some 'outer space' effects. I sent him an email for details on this mod and I'll try to post it here for you. It's a pretty wicked little mod. At the time he said he could have put a latching switch in there instead but we went for the momentary since I didn't need to be like an extra "patch". I've got a pic of it up on flikr...let's see if it'll link.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I want a latching switch, though, and I'd put it in a separate box with a jack for space reasons.

Basically this: A latching switch that will switch in a 10k resistor and turn an LED on when engaged.

What do I need? 3PDT, DPDT?
