Line 6 Pod X3 Live is KILLING POWER SUPPLIES!

Hey all, I've searched the forum as well as the internets and can't find anyone who has this same issue (lazy searches but still).

My X3 Live has recently started killing power supplies. I plug in, it works fine, and within a day or two the PS stops working. I've gone through three of them. I test the PS with a meter and it shows nothing. I plug into different outlets - same deal. If I get a new power supply, the X3 still works. But within a short amount of time it kills again. What's going on?

It just so happens that I had three power supplies for this unit (well, two Line 6 units and one Alesis unit with the same strange 9VAC output rating). I don't want to purchase another without first diagnosing the problem.

Also, is there a way to fix the power supplies I have? I know the Euro supplies have fuses in them, but if the US ones do, they are hidden inside the plastic case with no easy way to access. Any advice is welcome.

Maybe its just time to retire the X3. I use it mainly as a multi-fx unit for everything but drive and in that respect it works remarkable well. But I think there's a cheap nova station on my local CL . . .

Sounds like something in the pod is loading the PS. Bad capacitors or other? You'll need to bring it to a technician.

Why not back up your X3 and buy another one... the used prices must be pretty good by now?

Mine is still going strong - I haven't had any power supply issues.

Never heard of that issue. Do the supplies get hot before they malfunction? Iirc all the supply has in it is a transformer and thermal fuse.

I recently bought an X3 Live from Guitar Center for $89. Works great.

I don't know if the supplies get hot. They die when I'm away from the unit. I have a bad habit of leaving it on when I'm done playing, which could contribute to the deaths but shouldn't if all is working correctly.

I think you are right about the ps being just a transformer and fuse. I mean think I remember reading that somewhere. I guess it's time to crack one open and poke around

Make sure that the ps amp rating is right for the X3. Don't have mine in front of me, but remember it's pretty hefty for a wall wart. Something like an amp (1000 mA) or more. Still have mine, but have moved on to the HD500, HD500X, now the Helix... Always get one greater than the device needs....

9v AC 2000 ma - 2,000 <- its a big draw so be sure to get the right Line 6 one. When in doubt you can cruise over to the L6 site and shoot a Support Ticket into the L6 lads as they may have seen something like that before. I've not heard of an XT/X3 torching multiple power supplies.
