Live DVDs - why no audio only release?

Just something I've been wondering - more often than not when bands release live DVDs they don't release the audio independantly, why is that? I'm much more given to listen to music without also having a video going and very often I have no legal method of obtaining the audio (downloads/cds). Why don't the bands or record companies make the audio avaliable as well?

$, they'd have to pay the band more.

It's pretty easy to rip the audio off of a DVD.

That's what I was thinking also..is there a simple software to just pop a DVD in your PC and rip the audio?

many live dvds also include an audio only cd. I can think of QOTSA and ween for example.

Many does include a CD, but my last couple of music DVDs didn't (Robben Ford Ohne Filter revisited and Steely Dan). I honestly don't listen to it as much if I have to use the dvd instead of the cd player.

And I'll second the request for ripping software

Well, for one thing, you have a difference in capacity in the formats. A dual layer DVD can hold over three hours of video (a single layer Blu-Ray can hold 2.5 hours of HD video) . A CD is still limited to 78 minutes. So that would meaning releasing multiple CDs or doing a separate audio edit for the CDs. I have noticed that on the releases I have both the DVD and CD, the audio portion isn't identical a lot of the time. I believe they probably mix towards different goals for video and audio.

I've ripped the audio from several DVDs - I think I end up listening to the audio more than actually watching the videos. Some like Iron Maiden Rock in Rio is practically unwatchable due to the video editor with severe ADHD, but the music is great!

Unfortunately I lost the software I bought when my old computer crashed.
