I think it's pretty much the same as Guyatone compressors (Driving Box, Electra) from the same period, which I believe were very similar to the MXR and Ross comps.

That's funny! I had the "studio series" compressor that looked just like the later version. I bought it for 20 bucks. It was a cool comp...very squishy...very similar to a Dyna Comp.
I think it's mostly popular because Jason Falkner (Jellyfish, solo stuff) used one on his early recordings...he ran everything through it. Would his stuff have sounded drastically different if he had used a Dyna Comp? I don't know.

I've been a big fan of Jason Falkners' for many years. He said his early 4-track stuff was all run through the Choker, but despite how great those songs are the recordings are really nothing special at all. Some of them sound like crap to be honest (I'm thinking the stuff from the Miracle Medicine 7"s specifically). It's hard to believe that the words of Jason Falkner could be so much of an influence and to anybody who actually has listened to those 4-track demos. I mean, it's not like Jason is really a well known musician. I'd be surprised if 1% of the people at TGP have even heard of him let alone heard his music.

They are still cheaper in Europe. Bought the "Boston" version for 5 euro about ayear ago (never used it, what do you need a compressor for? bought it because I have the Boston phaser that I really like).

A Locobox just went for 125 euro.
