    anyone using these bad boys?

touted in tonequest as a p90 w/ the detail of strat pickup. while, i definitely DONT want a p90 pickup, i really like the idea of a huge mother of a strat pickup.

They are all that, I think when you run the tone wide open, they just smack you in the face. Very full tone, I would not say them as having the meaness of a P90. I have used lots of them and always recommend when someone wants a fatter tone and usuable bridge position.

I've got one in the bridge position of this Tele mated with a CC in the neck. It is hotter than vintage and fat/thick sounding but not so hot as to loose that all important Tele Twang. It's a very nice Tele pickup in the bridge but I have no experience with one in the neck. I never thought it sounded like a P-90.

How would they compare to a Fralin Steel Pole SP43?

I just installed a set of Lollar Specials on my Suhr Strat.
They sound Fat and clear. I like them MUCH better than the Suhrs V60LPs. To me they sound more like clear warm Humbuckers than P90s.
If you like Fat Strat tones you will like the Lollar Specials. If you want Strat Quack look elsewhere.
I think these are nice PUPs for someone that mostly plays HB Guitars and wants to have a Strat on the side.

I'd also like the answer to that. Since I'm very familiar with the SP43s and have them in both Strat and Tele style. Great pickups BTW, so long as you're not really looking for the traditional Fender sound.

Since the first time this thread was published I have had a special in the bridge of a strat as well as Blackfaces in the neck and bridge. I've tried fralin real 54's and Suhr FL standards as well and to me the Lollars were the least nice of the bunch. I found them to be overly bright and not very flattering to the guitar I had them in. The SP43 was a much better pickup for the bridge albeit not the traditional strat tone.

For my money. the Suhrs are the best of the bunch. I LOVE these pickups.

    Lots of interesting information
We don't get to hear or try out a lot of Lollar pickups here in Europe, but will be checking these out next US trip.

My Suhr Strat with Lollar Strat Specials sounds Fatter and Warmer than My PRS McCarty with 59/C5 Combo on Humbucking Mode. I LOVE these Lollar PUPs !!!
