I'm looking to buy a few 500k pots for my HSS strat, so I can get a very sharp and articulate tone, but I was wondering what the difference between long and short is, if there are any major ones.

    just too lazy to google

Strats use short-shaft pots, split shaft not solid shaft.

from a electronic aspect.. none.. the length of the mounting collar is to accommodate thicker applications only..

Long ones are long to go in LP guitars to allow for thick tops they have to poke through.

If you have a Strat you can use either, but short is simplest.
