A music store in town had this come in. I noticed the old case as soon as I walked in the door - it was just sitting in the corner ( hours after the transaction ). I'm sure they gave the guy almost nothing ( knowing them ) but I immediately felt the need to bring it back to it's former glory.

We sorta negotiated and they turned down my $2700 offer

The bridge pickup was discovered ( by me ) to me pretty whack so I told them to send it to JM Rolph who REPAIRED it. The neck pickup is original. The original wiring was goofed up by the store's tech ( an otherwise great tech ) who didnt realize that teles of this era dont have a BOTH PICKUPS ON option. He thought it was wrong so he rewired it like a modern tele

EVERYTHING else ( except the finish ) is original. Pots, Knobs, Caps, Bridge, Saddles, Tuners, Case, etc...

They turned my offer down a few months back. But they had a '59 hardtail strat walk thru the door ( which is pretty COOL !! ) and are probably cash poor -so they stuck it on Ebay

I won it today for $1900 and went over there (w/ a grin on my face ) to give my $1900 to the guy who laughed at my $2700 offer

I think I did good. I'll post pics as the restoration begins !!

    I'm thinking Blonde ( the original color ) - any opinions ?

I'm a noob... Teles of that era didn't have a "both pickups on" option? What was the middle position? For that matter, what were any of the positions?

They only used blonde on ash bodies at that time. And what a crime it would be to cover that grain with a solid color. Blonde is the only option.

As long as you get that stupid sticker off there, anything will be an improvement :D.

I remember you posting a warning about this guitar (on this forum or another one, can't remember) because the eBay ad wasn't exactly forthcoming on the history and issues of the guitar. I guess you winning it is Karma.

    Yeah -

that "sticker" is oil paint !! It's hand painted on there - PERFECT TO PULL OUT FOR SWEET HOME ALABAMA - BTW - should I solo in G or D ?? :)

the auction claimed ( until I threw a fit w/ the store manager ) that both pickups were original. They finally corrected THAT part of their description

it also said it was refretted and was a "player". It was NOT refreted and desperately NEEDS one ( which it will get ). I'm glad I won it because I KNEW what I was getting - if this had gone high with someone expecting something ready to go - they couldve have been pretty pissed at the seller

the great thing is - except for the refret - I can totally get this back in shape myself for almost no additonal cost

You guys are no fun. I say shell pink is badass, but I hear the desire to restore originality.

Good Buy! I wonder if it's the place I'm thinking of-pretty funny about that 800.00 savings, I bet they take the next offer you make on something, heh!

Yes, bring it back to it's former glory -- any chance of posting the ebay username of that store so we STAY AWAY! PM me if you want, I'm sick and tired of buying stuff (sometimes from "reputable" stores/sellers) and finding out it's not all it's cracked up to be...
