    Looking for a speaker recommendation.

I have a Ampeg combo amp. I am going to run it with a single 15 inch speaker. The amp is little dark. It also isn't very loud. I want a bright speaker that is very efficient. I play old school blues fairly clean.

    What speaker do you recommend?

Aside from the aforementioned JBL,,I would consider both an Altec 418B, or an EV 15L.

I like the Big Ben, maybe not the brightest, but loud as hell.

    It's a good rock 15"er, very efficient 102+dB per 1W/1M, so it's loud.

It does roll off steeply after 4khz, so it's not the brightest speaker in the world, but it's worlds brighter than something like the Big Ben which rolls below at like 2.7khz. And unlike the JBL E130 it's actually still in production and relatively inexpensive -- selling for around $90.

Weber Thames 15, possibly w. a vented aluminium dome opted for. For more aggressive vibe then a Fane 15-300

There are loads of D-K 130's available used, but I have found them to be all over the map preformance wise, the E 130's are more consistant, but very heavy.

IF weight is not an issue and you can not get a JBL, there is the Eminence special that was designed to emulate the JBL that comes in the Fender Custom 15" - its pretty great but very very heavy

I think you mean the Eminence Commonwealth. Very heavy and around 225 watts. I had one. It's a nice speaker, I think. It has an aluminum dust cover, which should imply 'brighter'.

I have an Ampeg Gemini II, the JBL D130, Eminence Legend 1518, and Weber 15A200, sound pretty darn great in these amps. I think the Legend is the brightest, although you might want to try a Weber California 15" with a metal dome. FWIW, I tried this Gemini II with a 12" Eminence Cannabis rex using a 15" - 12" adapter and that sounded great too.

Agreed-- I put one in my 60's Gemini 6 and love it. I dimed that thing yesterday-- WOW! I'd never done that before with this amp. Blew me away-- what a great character player....
BTW, I also use it for Wurlitzer electric piano-- a great match!
