OK...there are probably millions of threads on this already, but....

I am looking for a good/great distortion pedal! Any suggestions?

I have the overdrive covered with my new Burriss Boostiest (great pedal!), and my Ibanez Tubescreamer. I am looking for a pedal that is a little more that an overdrive, but does wander to far into the world of Fuzz.

    Any thoughts? :hiP

Maxon SD-9 is a great pedal.

A cheapie that I love the sound of is the Danelectro FAB Distortion. Looks like a toy but has nice distortion tone, believe it or not.

I am pretty happy with the Analogman DS-1 pro mod.

Keeley Rat! Better yet, treble boost (or perhaps Boostier) into Keeley Rat!

Yep, goofy name but the best I've owned (and that includes most everything out there, many more than once)

Landgraff Mo'D Pedal, which can be voiced for Humbuckers, or single coils. AMAZING distortion pedal. Smoking lead tones, and clens up with the volume knob if desired.

I have a Maxon SD9 modded by Analog Man, sounds good to me. I like my Mesa Boogie's distortion (Studio 22+) the best, but got tired of lugging two amps around.

    My favorite *Distoriton* pedals are:

    Keeley RAT
    Tonebone Classic

I'll try to make some sound samples tomorrow of of at least the RAT. It's got a nice full midrangy bite to it. It's pretty full sounding too... it's got that hint of fuzz, making it great for lead. Not the best for rhythm, but it'll work. It also sits well in a band mix (I think). Mine is a brand new RAT II that Keeley took, but the original type of OPamp chip in it (not sure what is...) and upgraded other components to higher values and quality. It's a great all around pedal IMO. He also put's a LED in the circuit that can add more of a "tube" flavor to it. Which is switchable as one of 3 modes. I tend to like the standard *improved* mode though.

BUT, as splatt suggested, the Eternity stinkin rulz! I like to say it's tone is a mix between distortion and OD (but leaning more in OD land).

Maxon DS830 Distortion Master. One of the most transparent and versatile units I've owned.

    Aaron,

No offense but that sounds like a cheap transistor amp. Muddy, and no definition. Granted this is through "computer speakers". No warmth or clarity.
