Looking for a little boost

Discussion in 'Effects, Pedals, Strings & Things' started by GravityOrange, Oct 14, 2006.

  1. Just looking for a drive pedal similar (if not exactly) to the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 pedal. What I want is something that WILL NOT discolor the original sound of the amp, give me a boost on leads and other parts...and a little more saturation and gain on tap for if I ever want it. A lovepedal is another one that I've heard good things about. Any suggestions from people who have tried or own?

Hotcake. Can be a clean boost, is transparent, but can take you into fuzzland if you so desire. Also adds a nice sparkle at almost any setting.

The Fulltone Fatboost does that job for me. It can color the tone or not. Depends on how you set it. But it does just what your looking for.

  8. What about the 2 pedals I mentioned

The FDII DEFINTELY has it's own sound and will take over if you use a significant amount of gain with it. The flipside to that is you can use the pedal in 'comp-cut' mode by pulling UP the volume knob. This will color your tone LESS, but in comp-cut mode doesn't deliver much gain.

As others have indicated, the Xotic RC (really clean) and AC (almost clean) Boost pedals are very transparent and will satisfy your requirements. And probably the RC moreso than the AC Boost which has a bit of a mid-hump to its overdrive.

Can't comment on Lovepedal. Don't own one. Haven't test driven one, either.

Barber Launch Pad. 20db clean boost, quiet, zero coloration, and it does about 10 other things if you want. A very solid build, yet surprisingly cheap ($125).

  13. Keeley Katana Boost.
    Very very clean, and quiet.
Also, when you pull the side knob out, it gives you a high gain boost.
    Completely neutral sounding.

TC Jauernig Luxury Drive. $109, you can't beat that. It sounded better than my friend's SHO.

  15. So many suggestions that it is hard to narrow down. I'd like to be able to narrow it down to 2 or 3 at the most

I run mine clean drive wise and it gives me just the right boost for solos, I can add some hair in with some drive as well. Great pedal.

RC Booster...really clean and tweakable with separate vol, gain and (active) tone controls.
