What A-B-Y pedal do you recommend? I want one with LEDs. Thanks!
What are you using it for? I used to use an A/B/Y for switching channels (just disconnected the Y button as I didn't want to accidentally step on it) on a Fender amp (well, switching inputs).
I had to go through a bunch though to find one that didn't pop loudly when switching. I ended up with a Whirlwind:
I worked in a music store at the time and tried a bunch, and this was the only one that didn't pop.
If you're going to use it to switch between two amps, buying a buffered/isolated unit will save you all sorts of potential future headaches. The Radial Twin City ABY is buffered and isolated, with a phase switch to make sure both amps are in phase. For switching amps, that's what I'd recommend.
+1 on the Radial Twin City. The Whirlwind was where I started years ago, but it couldn't help with ground loop issues or phase inversion. Twin City has been a problem solver as well as a great ABY.
The other ones I've had are the BigShot ABY (passive, no LEDs, but a great pedal none-the-less if you don't need a Y signal .. actives are better for Y), a MIDI capable unit by SoundSculpture called ABCadabra (never a problem, an option if you have a MIDI controlled rig) and a custom made jobby on one of those hobbyist bypass loopers (I would not recommend).
The Whirlwind kills your tone. Go with the Radial.
The Radial Twin City looks like the best but I also saw the Radial Big Shot. It's $70 less but it doesn't have LEDs.
Use the sesrch tool. There are a gazillion threads on this topic.
My Loopmaster ABY gets the job done.
I mentioned that one. IF you can live without LEDs and IF you are not so much interested in Y config, it is an awesome box (nothing wrong with its Y config mode, that's just the nature of a passive switcher). Even though I have the Twin City, I've kept it and it has come in very handy. In the studio, to throw together an ad-hoc rig, or even to A/B test some things, I don't have to hunt down any power for it and it has the options to resolve noise and phase problems. I was perfectly happy with it on my board before I got the Twin City ... except ... for no LEDs.
The best I found is Lehle.
German built tank with no popping noises and LED's
BOSS LS-2. the pro's choice.
Lehle little dual
Thanks but the Lehle is too expensive and with the Boss LS-2 it seems you have to turn it's knob to go from A-B switching to A+B?
I've been looking at this one, which doesn't get discussed much: http://www.decibel11.com/Split-Personality-Amp-Switcher.html
it has midi, phase, buffered, mute option...and price is not bad.
+1 on that.
Radial big shot Aby! I love mine and is affordable with great switches for grounding and phase issues that can occur
Radial Twin City is what I use in the studio. Works great, no tone lose, no hum, phase switch is super handy and important. I wish it didn't have that silly "Bones X" thing though
Fulltone True Path
+ 1 on this. it is really worth it
The big shot does not have LED lights.
