I'm a guitar player turned bass in the band I'm playing with right now. We play a pretty wide variety of styles based around rock, so a versatile amp is what I'm looking for. The bass amp I'm using right now works for us, but just barely...and bigger gigs will be on the way soon. I don't know half as much about bass amps as I do guitar amps.

If you know some good bass amps in that middle price range any leads would be excellent!

I was just about to post the same question, so I will watch for your answers. The bass player in my band just returned a borrowed rig and is looking for something around $600.

I use an Ampeg B200R combo, 220 watts and LOUD and powerful, looks cool, easy to use, and great tone! About $575.

I'd look for an American made Ampeg B100R or B200R. Best sounding combo out there, IMO.

I believe Musicians Friend is blowing out the lower-end Eden 2-10" combo for $699. My friend just bought one and it sounds awesome. List price is $1400.

I use an Ampeg BA115 its fairly cheap and maybe doesnt have the headroom some might wish but it sure sounds good. It would be enough for most through the house. My pops has the SVT Classic and I feel my little BA115 is pretty dang good as far as tonewise at lower volumes. But, certainly something with some tubes and more power would probably be better for a bigger band.

edit --- Just found the price haha I couldnt remember what I paid for mine and its at 350, so yea your buddy can probably do much better with twice that money!!!

I as well just turned bass player (half time) in my band and was recommended to a GK 800 RP head and pick a cab. I found a 700RP and a SWR (pre-fender) 6X10 for $500. This thing will take your knee caps off. The 700RP was older with a fan in it. I am not a seasoned bass guy but I likey!

Cool. I'm also picking up some gigs on bass. I found a used American jazz bass for $450. Then I found a GK 700 RP for $300. NOw I just need a decent 4x12 cab.

Did the SWR cab cost you $500? Is that Ebay or what?
