Hey all, I'm looking for a tube amp with great cleans, that will stay clean at gig volumes without breaking up. TI'd like to try and keep the price under $800 used if possible. hough I love fenders, I'd like to find something with a bit more midrange than a blackface or silverface fender. Either head or combo, I'd like it to have reverb and maybe trem, but mainly focusing on the cleans as I play mostly clean stuff with some pedals. Been thinking boogies maybe, but curious what's out there.

'59 Bassman LTD/RI... you will love it. I know I do! :aok

(No 'verb or trem, but you can add a Strymon Flint or similar pedal... they take pedals VERY well.)

Fender Dual Professional is the amp you want. Possibly the best amp Fender has made in the last 40 years.

JJ power tubes have 20% more mids... might be enough. Switch to 5881s better yet!

And then try different preamp tubes. If you have a Tungsol RI 12ax7 the tone will be chimey but thin. If Chinese will be aggressive but a bit hollow. If JJs bloated and flat. SOvtek LPS are smooth and neutral.

Frankly would need your entire rig rundown to really help you. But if your BF is close.. I bet you cpuld get it where you want for 75 bucks

Bogner Shiva 6L6 Reverb Head or 112 Combo is certainly an option worth considering.

Mesa DC, F, Maverick, Express, etc. Core of Mesa sound can be described as "Fender with more mids and gain." Can't say enough good things about the DC-5, amazing collection of useful features centered around a full, warm, and loud clean channel, and I rarely see people ask more than around $600 for them.

Hot Rod Deluxe or Deville? They have more mids than a BF Fender, somewhere between a BF and a tweed to my ears. Cheap and the IV's sound really good with the Celestion speaker.

Ignoring your budget, as one is want to do on a forum such as this, I say a Suhr Bella.....

hey bigot! i stumbled into an ltd, partly due to your recent posts. i had also previously sold my vvri after majorly diggin’ it for years. 5r4 5751 and 5881’d the bassman, so pleasantly surprised at how good it works at low volume with or without pedals. not to mention cranking it! so thanks.

Doesn’t the bassman break up pretty early?
