Looking to spend about $1000 - $1300 on a new amp. I want tweed type tones, around 20-40 watts. Any suggestions? Thanks

It'll push the budget a bit, but I'd go for a used '57 tweed twin RI from Fender. Some of the best tweed tones I've heard. 40 watts.

    there are many choices...

I love my vicky- others prefer Clarke- great builders to be sure but there are many other buiders out there..

look at Marsh and Tungsten as well; tungsten has a 25w 5e3 type circuit w/ 6l6's

Lil' Dawg also makes tweed circuits many seem happy with.

For reissue tweeds I vote Victoria, Clark, or Mission Amps (5E3 kits).

As for the model, I vote Bassman or 5F4 Super if you need decent headroom, 5E3 deluxe if you dont need much headroom. The Mission 5E3 kits are highly regarded if you are decent with a soldering iron.

p.s. I'm selling a Victoria right in your price range...

I'm spamming, here, but I have a red tolex 2X10 Dr. Z Galaxie that I want to sell for $1200 shipped. Go to the Dr. Z site to read about it. It's a tweed super with a lead channel that just drives like crazy. PM me if you're interested.

If you want tweed, and you can't build it yourself, Clay Hullett is the guy you want to talk to. I agree with those who say a Super (5F4) is a great choice.

oooh +1 on double deluxe. Many people forget about the double deluxe, myself included. Perfect for the stated wattage range, along with the super and bassman.

An amp I highly recommend is the Holland Gibb Droll. Great Bassman tones, and usually available use for around $800-$1000. The 4x10 combos sound a little more full than the 2x10. With a great set of Weber 10A125 speakers you should be set.

It's tough to beat a 5F4 tweed Super. There are several reputable builders that frequent this site that could put you together a nice one in your price range. Used Super clones show up from time to time in the $800 range.

    +1 on Richter,

I own 2 and love them. I played one of her 5E7's 3x10 combos recently, Smokin fine amp at around $1300? I beleive.
    Sarasmiles1820 on ebay.
