Except for Doug Sahm/Texas Tornados I have a bunch of that stuff.
Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass..
Are we talking food, pickups, music or potential dates?
Where's the like button?
Los Super Seven
Joe Ely or Rick Trevino - their output has been all over the map, but some of their stuff is good Tex-Mex based music.
As far as norteno music goes, Los Tigres Del Norte are good.
"El Rey De Los Rancheros", Vicente Fernandez, is a phenomenal singer and the production values are awesome. He's easily one of the best vocalists in modern music.
haha just music
Javier Solis, old school Mexican icon
why did they move this from the sound hound lounge to the pub?
The entire I, Flathead album from Ry Cooder. It kind of crosses over a lot of American genres, but there's a good bit of Mexican dancehall feel in there.
Los Lonely Boys: Pure Texican
Some F'n carnitas and a few margarita dude. Flour tortilla and green sauce for the win. Any music will sound good after your stomach is content.

Recipe for the meat and top right veggies.
Ok so I am ALSO planning a mexican themed birthday party for myself.
A couple year ago I did Jamaican.
Joe King Carrasco
Calexico. I don't like everything they do, but what I like, I REALLY like. Especially the Mariachi/Spaghetti Western stuff. Definitely worth checking out.
Step 1: Buy a plane ticket to Los Angeles
Step 2: Find any Mexican restaurant (there are 100s of them) that looks like it's been there a while, order the dish and ask for the recipe.
Fer tex Mex: Chili Colorado
For Mex: All!! Love me soe carnitas though.
Oh and Love Sir Douglas. Os Mutantes is pretty cool, but psychedelic.
They do this one track with Iron & Wine that is off the charts good.
Edit: actually there are a bunch of awesome collaboration tracks of that EP they did together...
