Well, my Elephant Man arrived. I really like it - it seems to act like an extra preamp tube in a box. I'm impressed with the crunch I can get from it just by hitting it with my SD-1 (drive at 0) or Unit67. $50 well spent.

So where's a 6L6 amp where you can footswitch from clean mid-scoop blackface, to middy fatter tones that like dirt pedals pushed into them better? The Allen amps have a Raw control that's footswitchable - does it give you that? I dunno but I'd love to try an Encore there just aren't any up here EVER .

If you don't know about Gries amps you should check them out; similar features to the Allen stuff but less expensive (pronounced like "rice" with a "g" before it).
There are a few versions of the Gries 5 and Gries 12 out there. I really like my Gries 5.
Newer Gries 5s come with an Eminence Alessandro and they have TMB tone controls as well as Vol, Gain and Master Vol.
The Gries 5 is a modified BF Champ that can take a 6L6 or 6v6 (and has a 12" speaker).
The Gries 12 is a modified Princeton.
They have a gain circuit for a more mid-forward and more distorted section and you can use a footswitch to change from the clean BF channel to that more mid-focused Tweed sound where the gain control gets involved (similar to the "raw" control on Allen amps).

You know ... I got a Mesa Boogie Mark IIb a short while ago, there are a few out there and this was a fair deal for an old amp in great shape. There are tons of amps that have solved ALL the problems of these old amps but ... I dreamed of having this exact amp when they were new, and I was in ... well never mind that, when they were new. What you are looking for is kinda what I am trying to do with this amp and I haven't got it quite figured out but it's promising. Got anything like that anywhere around where you are you could try out?

I'm not loving the reverb on the thing and the gain controls are quirky but ... the clean sound is so good, just dazzling good, and the lead channel set not too hot kinda seems just aboutt right for all kinds of fuzzes and drive pedals.

A 5e3 tweed Deluxe is 6v6, but it will do both of these tones you described.
I need to try the bass channel on the Bassman, the 5e3, and the Mesa TA15 Vox And Marshall channels...and my JMP....tomorrow.

I’m thinking all the time about modding my 5E3 (just a kit build) with a footswitchable negative feedback loop. Not exactly sure how to do it but I’m absolutely sure it’s possible. And that circuit can certainly be set up for 6L6s.

But. Sooo good in stock config with fuzz, all fuzz, any fuzz.

I picked up an Encore last May here in the amp emporium. Think i paid $1300. Really dig it too. Always wanted a Vibrolux after seeing Popa Chubby play a few times. He was using a 68 BF Vibrolux and MANNNN did it sound killer!

@Jiminvan check out Tungsten Amps, I have the Creama Wheat. 20w 6v6. I put RCA Blackplates in it and a NOS RCA 12ax7..it’s cathode biased so you can run it with 6L6’s without having to bias. It sounds incredible and it’s loud as AF. It really barks !!

The Tungsten Creama Wheat is a 5e3 clone that gets into Marshall territory with a Zen drive pushing it. It’s one of the best 5e3 clones I’ve played.
