It's kind of new I think, as I read a review in a magazine a few days ago at the store and was going to look it up on the web, then forgot the name.

Anyone read about a dual EL34 amp in any magazines this month??

The past couple of months there was a Reverend combo (2x6v6), a Savage combo (2x6v6) and a Superdeive Budda (2xel84) in Guitar Player/World, but I would only consider the reverend to be "inexpensive".

As for 2xel34 amps, Marshall of course comes to mind with both their 50w heads and the Bluesbreaker combo.

FWIW. I sent in my Peavey Prowler (2 6L6) to be moded to run on EL34's. I didn't like the tone and figured Meh! Nothin to lose:D

I think Carr just came out with a lower cost version of its Hammerhead. Not sure if it's "low cost" but I do think it's lower than what it used to be. Pretty sure those are 2xEL34.

It was something under $1K, I'll go back to the store and check. Those Reverends sure look like bargains, I probably shouldn't play one, I don't need any more amps...

I think its the Carr Hammerhead as mentioned already - it became available as a Head (with it's own rather cool looking Spk Cab).

    Best, Pete.

The Reverends are bargains. Single channel, though.

The "UK" setting is surprisingly convincing for a 6V6/6L6 amp.

I went back to the store and perused the mags, and in a UK Guitar Buyer magazine, I think reviewed by our own John Phillips here, was an Orange RV30 with dual EL34s, and V30 speakers. However, the UK 600 or so Pounds is probably equivalent to $9,992,323,323 US dollars, so it's proably not the bargain I thought it was.

The Rivera Chubster and Pubster are in the new Guitar Player. I think suggested retail on the Pubster is $999.

Was looking at dual EL34 based amps for this thread though.

That Orange Rocker 30 was a pretty cool amp. I'd check it out - you don't seem to get as ripped off with US vs. UK prices as we do the other way round...

I've heard some reports of variable quality on these amps - the one I reviewed was built like a small tank though. The only thing I thought could be significantly improved were the transformer mountings - the OT in particular was quite bent when I got it, the box had clearly been dropped - they really need extra brackets like Marshall put on the old amps. The rest of it was fine though.

That was a good review you did. I hope these amps make it to the stores out here to try.

    Mini-Plex: used $700-800....New about $1050
    Mighty-Plex: used $750-900....New about $1250-1300
    Rivera M60: used $600-900....New about $1200

Prices are approximate from my memory and for what "I" paid for mine. Check out ebay's past auctions, this page, gbase, etc... for a better idea.

I was thinking that the Rivera Clubster/Pubster '45s must have been what he was thinking about.

The come around used these days, I got one for about $750.

M60 used is about right. But new? More like $1900. Great amp though.
