Here are a couple of clips I made while testing out a new Edirol R-09 recorder. I had the recorder about 2 feet from the Lowden. Back behind the R-09 and to the sides were two amps being fed by a Kurzweil, Mangler, providing ambience from stereo tapped echos with the effects mix at 100%. The Lowden has an Amulet pickup system installed which provides a stereo signal.

I ran my Cannon A70 on vid mode, simultaneously with the R-09 and then synched the audio and video together using QuicktimePro and iMovie. I was trying different compression schemes betwen the two clips so you'll see see the video quality dip way down in one of them, but the audio stays pretty consitant.

Over all, I'm quite pleased with the R-09. The light plastic casing doesn't install a lot of confidence in it's durability, but the ease of use and the sound quality for a device this size is amazing.

    Dude! Please! Stop! (don't stop...)
Yer killin' me! Every time I land on your vid page it costs me at least a half-hour and then the gas pains linger... Thanks for all the demos.

I really dig your three-source mix via placement of the stereo R-09. The reinforcement of the bass and chimey echo is sweet when combined with the Lowden's beautiful tone. For such a small recorder/mic, the R-09 picked it all up nicely.

Is the Amulet a crossover or does the pickup feed it individual strings?

The Grosh Bari and Breedlove are just kickin' back and relaxing!

    Cheers,
    McE

The Amulet is a unique system. There are two small cubes which contain transducers floating in oil. The idea is for the system to hear the sound waves in three dimensions. The little cubes are at either ends under the bridge and they each hear all six strings, but with a definate emphasis on either the high or the low strings. I like to hard pan the two outputs for a spacious sound.

The Amulet system works well at capturing the air and harmonics of a nice acoustic without getting brittle or quacky. The downside, unless you play your guitar like a drum, is that the system picks up string squeaks and body contact noises exceptionally well also.

    :)

    cheers.
