Hi folks, I'm doing a little research on pickup placement and relative distance on several guitars, and I'm measuring the distance from the nut to the center of each pickup on various guitars.

I believe that this dictates tonal differences more than body wood or thickness, but I'm also open to being proven totally wrong.

Am I right that in hum bucker equipped Gibsons, SG pickups are placed closer together than LPs?

Can you please measure this distance in your Gibson LPs and ES-335s?

I apologize in advance if this has been covered in the past.

Here are the measurements I took with the guitars I have here:

    Telecaster (Single Coils):
    Neck: 19.25"
    Bridge: 24"

    Stratocaster (Single Coils):
    Neck: 19.25"
    Middle: 21.5"
    Bridge: 24"

    SG (Humbuckers):
    Neck: 19.5"
    Bridge: 23.5"

I think that's the whole difference in tone between LP and SG... Neck pickup moved 1/2" to the right to accommodate the neck joint...
