I have a 2003 LP Standard and I want to take off the soldered on pickup covers my question is…Are the pickups normally black if my guitar is black?

    Thanks in advance.

If the pickups are stock Gibsons, more than likely they are double black underneath the covers.

Excellent! (Skinner Voice implied) That's what I was hoping.

    Thanks

You can take out a screw on the back of the pickup (the ones that hold the bobbins) and look in there to see what color your bobbins are. A flashlight sometimes helps.

You will most likely have to clean some wax off the top of the bobbins once the cover is off.
