So what's your example of the most absurd fee you've been pitched or hoop someone has asked you to jump through?

Today's example is my HOA. They wanted a $19.95 fee to process my credit card payment by phone. :bonk

Last time I was in Vegas, a $28 "resort fee" added to my reservation.

I haven't put any thought into the question, but I want to thank you for using "ludicrous" and "audacious" in a thread title together... as a lover of words, I don't see much of that here on TGP.

Actually, that could be a great song title for an instrumental...

    or maybe a band name.

    welcome to the stage..

    Cross border brokerage fees.
They seem to vary from zero to ludicrous.

I bought a VCR once for $99. The salesgirl asked me if I'd like to buy an extended warranty... Me - "How much does it cost?" Her - "$120."

Buying Disney Tickets this past December $133 each to stand in line 60-120 minutes per ride/event.

the one that kills me Paying to file a state tax return. If I file paper they asses another fee that even costs more.

Took my wife to a local restaurant for dinner last night.
Went to the cashier to pay and was informed they don't accept credit or debit cards. Cash or check only. Well, I didn't have my checkbook and didn't have enough cash. The cashier says they have an ATM machine inside the entrance.
Put my debit card in to get cash and there was a $3 ATM fee.
Checked my bank account online this morning, and my bank charged me another $1.50 for using a foreign ATM. The bank and the restaurant are right next to each other. :FM

Verizon Wireless, who charged me an "upgrade" fee to put me on a plan that was actually a downgraded plan from what I'd had for the past 3 years.

Went to see Tom Petty at the Forum last year and paid $25.00 to park. Not VIP parking, just standard lot parking. Ticketmaster fees are a good one.

The big one for me though. There used to be a time when banks paid you to allow them to hold your money. Now you get a "service charge" if you don't have a certain balance. In other words, the people who can least afford it are the ones who have to pay for the service of letting them use your money to make more money.

My apartment complex is not set up to accept anything but checks as monthly lease payments. If you absolutely have to use a credit card, they have a third party vendor that charges $50 for the "privilege". I keep asking them when they're going to join the 20th Century, let alone the 21st.
