I don't know much about delay/verb and what will get me specific sounds, but am after a pedal to complete my board that will give me a nice lush clean sound with really atmospheric and ethereal echo type sound. I'm looking for really Radiohead like delays and wobbles and weird kind of blip and bleeps. I really like the shimmer mode on the Bluesky by Strymon as a reference point, but kind of want space echo options and tape etc etc.

Where should I begin? I'm totally lost on modulation and delay.

Best delay with modulation ever hands down is the EHX Deluxe Memory Man. To me it is the epitome of that lush atmospheric echo.

Also check out the Boss RE-20, DD-20 (modulated delay mode), El Capistan (all have tap tempo if you're into that).

Really enjoying my El Cap. I've got a TRS cable on the way to use a vol pedal to control
parameters. I use it in combo with a DD-3.

    "Lush, atmospheric, spacey echo"

First thing that came to mind is the Skreddy Echo, especially the atmospheric & spacey part. But I haven't kept up with the Strymon/t.c. frenzies and am still content with what the Skrecho delivers. It also can and does do the wobbles/blips/bleeps stuff very well too.

The Strymon El Cap and the Skreddy Echo come to mind.

Maybe a Strymon Timeline if you want a lot of options...

Don't want heaps of options. Also like the sound of the Empress Superdelay.

Another vote for the Deluxe Memory Man.

Another good choice for really great lush echoes is the CatalinBread Montavillian, but it doesn't have modulation.

My new favorite for modulated lush delays, which I just acquired recently:

(not me playing in the vid, by the way.)

Part of me wants to stand up for my timefactor but that just isn't the one. It does happen to be enough for me as far as tape echo type sounds (wow, flutter, other spaceship sounding noises, etc) but obviously too much.

Since it seems like you're looking for something simple and everyone else is saying EHX DMM or El Cap, I'm gonna throw the mxr carbon copy out there. It's a small footprint on the board and has a big, beautifully lush sound when that modulation switch is engaged. It has really nice warm analog tone to it no matter what though and you can get some spaceship noises since all the adjustments are in real time and will oscillate and go crazy if the repeats are too high. Simple and awesome.

Don't forget the Boss Space Echo pedal (seen it on quite a few famous pedalboards). Browse through the older threads.

Lots of solid choices, my fav three are:

    -DMM
    -Superdelay
    -El Cap
-Carbon Copy/616 (If you're looking for something simple, both are analog delays with mod and sound sweet!)

Jack Deville Dark Echo is awesome for what you're talking about. Good repeats, warbly modulation. I use that in combination with a WET reverb and an Earthquaker Disaster Transport. The thing I love about the EQD is that the modulation is controlled by a separate footswitch. Allows me to keep the Dark Echo warbly and twisted, and switch between clean/modulated on the EQD.

I wish more delays had footswitch controlled modulation.

An empress superdelay set with really high feedback in ducking mode is one of my favorite atmospheric delays.

Also an RV-3 in delay+reverb mode with the mx set super wet.

The more I use the CB Montavillian Echo the more I love it. Great choice for a atmospheric, shoegazing echo.

If you're looking for Radiohead sounds, get a Line 6 M9/M13 or DL4. Its all over their stuff - because they use it. Of course, everything else mentioned is good too - a lot of good options out there.

Here's my favorite. No modulation but so atmospheric it doesn't really need it.

This is another great one, this one with switchable modulation...

Love this one for ambience--reverb and delay in one package...

Can you be a bit more specific about where they were used?
