Like the title says, looking for a good tone sweetener/ low gain OD.

I currently own the shod but have been very intrigued by the soul food. Curious what everyone's thoughts are, how they compare and which you prefer.

What sound are you actually trying to achieve? The term "sweetener" is too subjective here; one man's sweet is another man's cloyingly saccharine. What is lacking currently in your tone? The Soul Food is not typical of low gain overdrives. With the gain completely off, it provides clean boost. As the gain comes up, it cuts bass frequencies, and not only adds very specific mids, but provides a small amount of envelope filtering that gives it its characteristic "aww" sound. That may or may not be perfect for you, but you'd need to know what you're wanting first.

Soul Food, with gain off or close, is great as an always on tone sweetener.

Sweet honey stacked before that with gain up to a good low gain spot for dirt.

These two will sound awesome together. Both will sound good as a tone sweetener, but the shod will have a better OD sound with the gain set higher, imo.

Between the two the SHOD would be my choice, especially if you are going to dial in some dirt. I'm sure they'll play nice together and the Soul Food won't set you back a ton, so I'd pick it up for a cleanish boost. I've found very few pedals that the SHOD didn't stack well with. It's a great "feeling" pedal, not a great descriptor, but that probably makes sense to you since you own one.

Glad to hear from people that have both. I have the SHOD and ordered the Soulfood, expecting to work well together.

What order do you run them?

Sorry for the possible hijack.

After tweaking the SHOD I am enjoying how it stacks with my TS clone.

Thinking I will still pick up a soul food to see what it does for my clean tone

The sould food sounds good like everyone says but man is it built like a cheap pos. was running it around the house with a battery tonight. Battery doesnt fit right so it bent the battery connector and kept cutting out. Screws came pre stripped because the cover doesnt quite line up so I can get three screws in properly. Its just not worth sending back. I can still use it plugged into power but it makes me appreciate my other fantastic sounding pedals in the same ballpark like my sms earth drive.

Furthering the comparison: what can those two pedals do that my Barber LTD SR or Kalamazoo can't? Should I be gassing for either?

(Serious question as neither the SHOD or Soul Food are available locally, and I'd have to order from overseas...)

All the above are said to be low gain od's, so shouldn't one serve just as well as the others?
