Maintaining/preserving vintage LP?

My dentist has a 1956 Les Paul that he has owned since the sixties and he asked me if there is anything he should do to preserve it such as some oil on the fretboard or something. Does anyone know what if anything should be done to protect a vintage guitar from deterioration? Humidity concerns?

Just tell him I'll take care of it for him.

The fingerboard should be oiled at least once a year. Guitars like 45% relative humidity at 70 degrees.

He should have it checked out by a luthier and appraised for insurance purposes.
