I think they need to start the extra innings with bases loaded... that would be exciting

Nah, I like the game as it is. If people want to speed up the game then baseball is not for them.

For the video game generations. Everything has to be fast or they get "bored".

    Absolutely crappy idea.

I'm not for it, but I'm not sure "speeding up" the game is the reason, just getting it to end sooner when it goes to extras.

Isn't the point of most video games to keep a game going as long as possible?

Yeah, I'm okay with experimenting with ideas to ending extra innings games sooner.

The endless throws to first are pretty lame, as is the gamesmanship involved in all the visits to the mound to try and allow your bullpen guy to get a few more pitches in before he takes the ball.

Of course, lots of oldsters claimed the game would be ruined by adding the changes they did recently. Nothing here looks like it will fundamentally change the game. Of course, people vote with their attendance and views.

Hey, how about sudden death? The home team decides if it wants to bat or field to start the extra inning. Or, play only 6 innings like in little league! Or have a home run derby shoot out! Or remove one outfielder for each extra inning...

Perhaps if they followed the actual rules, started games earlier, cut down the ad times, limit time between pitches and stepping out of the box etc. they would find that they don't need to try stupid rule changes.

First time I ever heard of this was in one of my son's baseball tournaments last year. They called it a "Texas Tie-breaker."

I don't like these ideas, but they do need to speed things up.

I have always thought a pitch clock - like the shot clock in basketball - would do the trick. Or any kind of time limit. There's just too much standing around, or taking little uncalled timeouts to take a few steps off the mound, adjust the hat, spit, take a deep breath, etc. The batters do it, too. Most athletes cannot stop game play to take a little breather and gather their thoughts.

I like the idea of not letting a relief pitcher warm up on the mound after being sent in. Have them warm up completely in the bullpen, give them a set time to get from the bullpen to the mound and ready to pitch.

They should make the managers take 2nd. Now that would be funny.

Want to speed up the game? The batter can't step out of the box during an at bat. Seriously batters, you don't need to step out of the box and adjust your batting gloves 20 times after each pitch. You didn't even swing at that one! Your gloves are fine!

I would be okay with having a batter that is going to be walked just take first base, like they do in softball......

I think that is the issue, less and less people are finding that baseball is for them. Baseball is losing market share.

Bingo - same reason the NFL changes rules to completely help the offense. Much more "fun" when each team scores 55 points - especially to people with little-to-no attention span or understanding of the art of playing defense. Same with the NBA as well.

I wonder if they considered a compromise in which the speed-up features only apply starting with, say, the 11th or 12th inning or something like that.

Mandate a bench clearing brawl during the 7th inning stretch. That'll bring in lots of new fans.

Both baseball and Football seem to feel the need to stay on schedule I guess, otherwise they cant figure out what commercials to put in the OT maybe...? Start the 10th inning with bases loaded flip of a coin, first score ends the game, then they can be like football... :>)
