in short: this amp is everything it's cracked up to be and more!

i keep thinking that this thing is so smooth sounding. the damn thing is all handmade down to the transformers.
it's so well made that it's scarey. the thing came in a wooden crate that looked like a coffin for a toddler!
the grinder mod on the back really thickens up the bass.
unlike other hi gainers there is just not a trace of stridency.
just fat rock tones. i think my od100 se is more versatile but a completely different animal.
the head is also quite massive at a good 65 lbs for sure.
i've been playing it thru 4x12 16ohm chinese greenbacks in a knucklehead rivera cab. not sure they are the best fit.

the crate is also branded with a mako amps logo.

my best description is that it's kind of like the difference between a production motocrosser and ricky charmicheal's or jeremy mcgrath's-everything just works better. you feel like you are playing an amp made for a rockstar. god bless american amp makers and andre solner (sp?)specifically for producing such amazing products.

Response to my email to andrew.......of mako

    Todd!!!

    >hi - just bought it used. it's the most impressive amp i've ever plugged
into! thanks. it's got a smoothness to it that it hard >to explain.

Hey, thanks glad you like it! It's that "x- factor" that you can't really
put your finger on that makes my amps a little different.
Not everyone gets "it", but those who do enjoy it. I hate to use the words
like "mojo" or "x factor" as it sounds like total BS marketing, but I've
tried to put something extra in the feel of my amps.

    >...how did you do it?

    Magic!

    >seems like it might have to do with the hand wound transformers
...something else i've never seen. did >you handpick all >the components?
sorry in advance for the dumb questions.

Yes, I used to sit here all day and wind each turn of the transformer coils
by hand. That's thousands of turns of really fine wire.
I've since outsourced that labor and they are now made to my exact windings.
Not many amp makers know how to design a transformers, which is different
than simply specifying what they need in terms of output etc.. I'm lucky
I can make my own prototypes here as that's a key to getting great ones.

    >anyway just wanted to express how happy i am with this amp and if you ever
    need a testimonial i'm there!

Cool! I've made a small cabinet change since yours(a cleat behind the logo
board top). Also, there is a low noise mod available. And I believe I've
    upgraded the knobs since #1.

    >love the wooden crate...something else i've never seen.

Made by hand too! I've just switched over to boxes, so no more crates. My
goal is to get more amps out at a faster pace.

Welcome to the family! Your amp has a lifetime warranty, so I look at you as
the guy who bought it in the first place.

If there is anything you need let me know!

    At your service,

OK - I'm perplexed - you love this but are selling or sold this?

I've had a bunch of Komets and presently have 2, and in no way are Komets hi-gain beasts.

Or are you just itching to try a Komet? Not loking to start a fight - just trying to understand.

FYI I'm getting a Mako in about a week and a half and I don't see any overlap between the Komets and Makos.

PM or email me if you want.

    Cheers

    Nigel

    Sax,

PM me if you are indeed looking to sell.

    v-verb,

Which Mako are you getting? I still have a little wait before my Dorado arrives.
