What cab and speakers are you running with it?

I've tried it with a 4x12 VHT cab with V30s and an Uber Cab. I prefer it through the V30s. But it sounds bigger when i run it through the ubercab. That's probably the difference in the cabinet construction more than the speakers. The VHT cab is much more focused. I'm working on wiring up some G12h30s into another cabinet. Andrew recommended the V30s for modern sounds. I believe the clips on his website are through G12H30s though.

    Thanks!

I have a rear-loaded Diezel cab with V30s and H30s. That might do the trick.

I have a Dorado and I prefer a front loaded cab with MC90s over anything else. I know the Makoplex is a different beast.

Sounds like a good combination to me. How are you liking the Dorado?

I love it! Very aggressive, tight, and modern. It's currently with Andrew getting a few tweaks. Andrew put up a short clip of mine on his site if you care to check it out.

What are you getting tweaked? I may send in the makoplex to get a few tweaks myself. I know that he offers a brightness mod, low-noise mod, and a depth mod. Do you know if anyone else has gotten those done yet?

I'm having him add a bit more high-mids, a smoother gain taper, and a NFB knob to the Dorado. The MP is coming with all the mods you just mentioned.

NFB? Is that negative feedback mod? Is it the same as the depth mod?

The Celestion Blues works well with the Makoplex's high gain character?

YES!! They really put the chunk and bark in the midrange. Of course I should point out that I don't use a very high level of gain in my playing. More in the low to medium gain is more my thing. But YES, the blues sound fantastic with the Makoplex.

Svetlana's in the output section and Philiips 12AX7WA's in the preamp section #2 and up. I love that hot rodded classic plexi tone and with preamp tube #1 running a Philips 12AT7 she sounds incredible and has all the gain an then some that I can use. With a 12AX7WA in the #1 slot it turns into a flame thrower.:crazy :D Of course when I'm really feeling nutty throwing the AX7 in there is a crap load of fun!!:dude

The 6550 is from the 6L6 family of tubes. This usually translates to big bottom end, extended top end and relatively scooped mids. I can't imagine needing or wanting more bottom end than the Makoplex. But I would expect the 6550 loaded amp to be every bit as big on the bottom. One of the beautiful things about Andrew's circuits in general form my experience is no matter how huge the bottom end you dial in these baby stay freakin' tight and punchy beyond belief.
