    Training would be my guess.

I dunno but I’d be surprised if the USAF needed to use local airports for staging any real strategic operation.

That kind of activity where it is rare raises eyebrows, and rarely addressed on the news. One bright sunny day, i heard the roar before i saw them; 4 huge military planes, some kind of transports and flying very low, extremely rare around here...no place to take off or land.
I'm not sure why it it so secretive but it demonstrates the huge gap between those running the show and those paying for it.

Yeah but if these fighters were being used somehow in response to that, why would they be taking off and landing at a local airport in the USA? We have a lot of air bases if they’re on their way to one in Asia.

I’m going to expand my earlier guess of training exercise to include the possibility of them being National Guard.

I lived in Hampton VA a while in the 90's near Langley. You knew shii was up when those F15's were seen leaving in huge numbers and then F117's soon followed. Then Norfolk Navy carriers went to sea and most of Oceana NAS was clear of fighters... it's gon get real.... That was during Desert Shield/Storm

We have a wing of National Guard F16s based here in Madison, and it is unnerving to see them coming/going with weapons during times like these, which they have been doing. They recently returned from a 6 month deployment to Korea.

It got loud from time to time. Moved from Va Beach near NAS Oceana to Hampton and JPL.

I loved fighters, my wife didn't. Went from F14 Tomcats doing touch and go's to F15's going off or worse....the F4 Wild Weasels. Those were louder than F15's. F15's were noisy but gone really quick. My wife's friend suggested we go to Delaware where the C5, C17's etc were stationed. Loud and Slow.... high noise pitchy cargo jets. No thanks!! Fighters are badass
