Which Komet was Knopfler using on the Shangrila album? He coaxes some tones out of that amp with his fingers, just on the edge of distortion, but never over the top. Just a master at work.

There was an article floating around a while back when it came out. I can't find it now.

When he was in Finland during the Shangri-La tour he seemed to use just the Komet for everything. Unbelievably good tone.

    quite possibly.
right colour. i had expensive seats, but i couldn't see clearly enough.
    thanx.
the show was a bit of an adult contemporary snooze-fest (love both emmylou and knopfer) but his tones were scrumptious.

Komet= "high gain" single chanel high gain. How do they sound with no master and three pre amp tubes?

They sound loud, but great. Notice that Knopfler uses a Dr Z Airbrake to tame the Komet 60.

Scrumptious tones, indeed. That's the Tone King Imperial I saw at Berkeley's Greek Theater show (the last one of the tour). Its easier to see during sound check. Glad I went.

Oh yes, that's a great combo (Komet, Tone King, and Knopfler).

I spoke to one of the guys at the Peterson booth at Austin NAMM that was one of th team that built the strobostomp. I basically started the conversation thanking them for coming out with it. I really like the Peterson stuff.

i didn't know 'toneking' until i read it here.
of course the amp that he uses hasn't been in production for nigh on to a decade. TGP has and continues to be an education for me.

On the gig in Finland he did seem to plug his guitar into a volume pedal and that into one of the Komet halfstacks on the front of the stage while the other guitar player used the second Komet halfstack but can't be sure. I don't remember there being extra Komets on the side of the stage, but I did notice a few Orange heads for backup.
